Homemade Pumpkin WhipYield: Approximately 4 cups
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Pumpkin Roasting Time: 45–60 minutes
Chilling Time: 1 hour

Ingredients

For the Fresh Pumpkin Purée

  • 1 small pie pumpkin (approximately 2–3 pounds)
  • Water, as needed for roasting

For the Pumpkin Whip

  • 1 cup fresh pumpkin purée, cooled and drained
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup cold heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, optional

Instructions

1. Roast the Pie Pumpkin

Preheat the oven to 375°F.

Cut the pumpkin in half and scoop out the seeds and stringy insides. Place the pumpkin halves cut-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Add a small amount of water to the pan.

Roast for 45–60 minutes, or until the pumpkin is tender and easily pierced with a fork.

2. Make the Fresh Pumpkin Purée

Allow the roasted pumpkin to cool until it’s comfortable to handle. Scoop the flesh away from the skin and transfer it to a food processor or blender. Blend until smooth.

Fresh pumpkin can contain quite a bit of moisture. If your purée seems watery, place it in a fine-mesh strainer lined with cheesecloth and allow the excess liquid to drain in the refrigerator.

Measure out 1 cup of pumpkin purée and refrigerate until completely cooled.

3. Make the Pumpkin Whip

In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and creamy.

Add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and brown sugar, if using. Beat until everything is well combined.

Add the cooled pumpkin purée and continue mixing until smooth.

4. Whip the Cream

In a separate chilled mixing bowl, beat the cold heavy whipping cream until stiff peaks form.

Gently fold the whipped cream into the pumpkin mixture in two or three additions. Fold just until combined to keep the mixture light and fluffy.

5. Chill & Serve

Cover the pumpkin whip and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. This gives it time to firm up while allowing all those warm fall flavors to come together.

Serve chilled alongside gingerbread cookies or gingersnaps for dipping.

Tips for the Perfect Pumpkin Whip

Drain your pumpkin. Fresh pumpkin often contains more moisture than canned pumpkin. Draining away excess liquid will help give your pumpkin whip a thick, fluffy texture.

Adjust the sweetness. Prefer a sweeter dip? Add another 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar and mix until combined.

Make gingerbread sandwich cookies. Spread or pipe pumpkin whip between two gingerbread cookies for an easy fall dessert.

Keep it chilled. Store leftover pumpkin whip covered in the refrigerator and enjoy within 3–4 days.
