I have never been one to blog or to even understand most social media. This is a whole new world for me so please bear with me while I learn this. I have spent a lot of time trying to think of what I should write. How do I write it and what all do I say? I decided that it may just be best to write from my heart. Write what we do and what we face.
With that being said, we aren’t farmers, we are homesteaders. We raise animals for meat. We grow fruits and vegetables and our newest adventure is raising bees for honey. Some days I feel so out of my league. I feel like I have so much to learn about irrigation for watering and proper health care and maintenance of our animals. So much to learn about bee cultivating and how to build our bee boxes and properly put bees with new queens in them.
It is so hard to figure out how to make sure that aren’t using any sprays that aren’t good for the animals or the farm. We try to stick to using only organicide spray for our plants and vegetables. We looked into what was in it. Fish oils and such keep the insects from destroying the plants but they do not work well. So again the search continues for something that works well.
I work in a medical field and understand the importance of vaccination schedules and deworming and hoof care for all of our animals. With that being said, I am not a vet in any way. I have so much to learn about the best rotation of deworming medications. I have a good handle now on the hoof care and the CDT vaccines. I still have so much more that I want to know…I want to be able to do for our animals.
While what we do is a very important thing to us, it isn’t without struggles. We just hope that each day we can teach out children the importance of being able to grow their own food and how to share with others. We want them to learn to put God first, others second and then themselves. We only hope that we can share out beliefs with our kids and that we can give them half of what we learned to love.
